Laughing Gas (aka Nitrous Oxide)
You have seen the YouTube videos go viral, but Nitrous Oxide, known to many as laughing gas, is no joke! Nitroius Oxide is the most commonly used sedative in dentistry. We administer it by having the patient inhale the gas, which is carefully monitored by the dentist and our staff.
Nitrous oxide sedation is very safe and effective. It helps patients sit back, relax and not have the anxiety or fear that many can feel in the dentist chair. Once the procedure is done, then the nitrous oxide should wear off fairly quickly, and you should be able to drive yourself home and return to your daily activities.
Although Nitrous Oxide is a safe form of sedation, it is still important to have a preliminary visit with Dr. Kehmeier to make sure that you are an eligible candidate for nitrous sedation.
